With Tom Ford around, Rupert Everett may have some competition these days as the most dashingly handsome gay man alive. Now word has it that Ford, whose eponymous New York fashion house opened earlier this year, is now turning his attention to making movies.
Seems the old saw that all everyone in LA wants to do is direct is proving to be true, as Ford is eyeing Christopher Isherwood's novel A Single Manas his directorial debut on the silver screen. The 1964 novel, considered by many to be Isherwood's best work, centers on a gay college professor adjusting to life after the sudden death of his partner.
While Ford certainly knows how to pick and shoot beautiful people for fashion spreads and magazine covers (including the notorious Vanity Fair spread with Keira Knightley and Scarlett Johansson last year) -- often with himself thrown in for good measure (no complaints) -- it remains to be seen what he can do with a moving image. Or do I need to bring up the career of another fashionista-turned-would be auteur, one Joel Schumacher?
