Out and About: 100 for 2007

Every year, Out Magazine selects 100 GLBT people and our supporters to honor in their "Out 100" list. This year's recipients include several representatives of not only our community, but the movie/television/stage worlds as well:
  • Jon Robin Baitz: Creator/producer/writer of Brothers and Sisters (a.k.a.: my weekly cry).
  • Bryan Batt: Fondly remembered for his turn in Jeffrey, currently on Mad Men, the actor was honored as Artist of the Year.
  • David Binder: Producer of such New York stage hits as Hedwig and the Angry Inch and Legally Blonde - The Musical.
  • James Bolton: Director of Eban and Charley and The Graffiti Artist.
  • Justin Bond: Kiki of Kiki and Herb fame; cameoed in Shortbus.
  • Alan Cumming: Multi-talented star of stage (Cabaret) and screen, both big (Spy Kids) and small (the upcoming Oz-centric Tin Man).
  • Russell T. Davies: The man behind Doctor Who and its spin-off, Torchwood.
  • Eytan Fox: Director of OutFest winner The Bubble, as well as Walk on Water and Yossi & Jagger.
  • The many makers of Hairspray: Producers Neil Meron and Craig Zadan, director Adam Shankman, songwriters Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman and the man who started it all, John Waters.
  • Jennifer Hudson: The actress/singer can now add Out's Breakthrough of the Year honors to her many other awards for Dreamgirls.
  • Bill T. Jones: The dance pioneer and Tony Award-winning choreographer (Spring Awakening) was the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement honor.
  • Leslie Jordan: Star of the stage and screen versions of Sordid Lives, he won an Emmy for his memorable stint on Will and Grace.
  • Annie Lennox: The Oscar-winning singer/ songwriter (The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King) was named Humanitarian of the Year for her work with AIDS charities around the world.
  • Stephen Mear: Broadway choreographer of Mary Poppins and The Little Mermaid.
  • Graham Norton: Talk show host and scene-stealer (Another Gay Movie).
  • Mary-Louise Parker: J Hud was prematurely dubbed a "gay icon" by the magazine, a title more rightfully bestowed to this star of Longtime Companion and Angels in America. Parker was named Entertainer of the Year for her work on the TV hit Weeds.
  • The men behind Save Me: Producer Christopher Racster and stars Chad Allen and Robert Gant.
  • Darryl Stephens: Noah of Noah's Arc, he also starred in Boy Culture.
  • Christine Vachon: Prolific producer, including Todd Haynes' Far from Heaven and I'm Not There.
  • Rev. Mel White and his son, Mike White: Mel, former ghostwriter for the religious right, appeared in The Eyes of Tammy Faye. Mike wrote and starred in Chuck & Buck and The School of Rock, and will make his directorial debut with next year's Year of the Dog.
