U.F.O.: Upcoming Film Oddities

Attention X-philes: Those of you who have been jonesin' for another dose of their favorite man and woman in black for five years now (add another three for a good one), your wait is over. David "Spooky Mulder" Duchovny, Gillian "Hot Scully" Anderson and creator Chris Carter are now -- finally -- all on the same page concerning the second X-Files movie. The result: the sequel will hit theaters next summer (June 25th to be exact).

And, unlike their last big screen effort, it sounds like a winner. The as-yet untitled new film (which starts filming next month) will ditch the twisty mythology that bogged down the last few seasons of the television series in favor of one of those "stand-alone" mysteries that were always the show's best. I'm talking stuff like shape-shifting creeps, incestuous backwoods mutants and bug-eating carnival freaks -- now that was some damn fine TV.

No word yet if Robert Patrick, Annabeth Gish or Mitch Pileggi (the sexiest bald man to ever grace the small screen) will be back on the case this go round; unlike the notorious "Cigarette Smoking Man" or the nerdy Lone Gunmen, they all survived the series' final episodes in 2002. But then again, this is The X-Files, so anything can happen ... like a second movie.
