The Hills Are Alive With the Silence of the Lambs

Two very different productions are arriving on the East coast this week to not only offer their own kinds of holiday cheer, but also to present unique interpretations of two very different movie classics.

First up is the Salzberg Marionette Theatre production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's The Sound of Music at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art from December 7-9. The troupe will perform to a recording of the beloved musical featuring a host of Broadway talent, including Christiane Noll (Jekyll & Hyde), Jonathan Groff (Spring Awakening) and Jenn Gambatese (Tarzan). This sounds intriguing; one can only imagine the meta possibilities with the famous "Lonely Goatherd" number.

On the other end of the spectrum is Boston's Gold Dust Orphans' Silent Night of the Lambs, described as "a tale of horror, suspense ... and eggnog!" The award-winning horror spoof returns for a four-week run starting tomorrow, and promises to be a ho-ho-hoot and a half if these lyrics are any indication: "He knows if you've been naughty ... He knows if you've been nice ... He'll cut out both your kidneys ... And serve them up with rice!"
