Miss America Gets a Little Ugly

TLC (The Learning Channel) is best known for shows about dwarf families, tattoo artists and liposuction doctors, but now it seems they are gunning for Bravo's title as the gayest basic cable network on the dial (of course, they are already half way there with What Not to Wear alone).

Not only have they snagged the rights to air the Miss America Pageant, but prior to that broadcast in January will be a new reality show called Miss America: Reality Check. Yeah, big whoop, another reality show, but here is where it gets interesting: Michael Urie, who plays fabulous fashionista Marc St. James on Ugly Betty, will host the program.

As you can see by the promo now airing, it appears that Urie will be doing the whole program in character as Marc. Or maybe that's just a ploy to get Betty fans to watch it ... either way, it will be worth at least a look-see. One thing they should have done to spice up the proceedings would have been to cast Urie's Mode partner-in-crime/real-life BFF, Becky Newton as co-hostess. Now that would have given Bravo a run for the money. Stacy London's got nothing on our best hag, Amanda.

UPDATE: Here's another commercial ... love the bit about the sequins. And I'm not usually one to toot my own horn (heck, if I could do that, I'd never leave the house), but it has taken almost three weeks since Movie Dearest originally posted this item for such gay news sites as Towleroad, After Elton and Out in Hollywood to pick up on this story (and, if I wanted to be catty, I'd say that the latter two got it from the first like they usually do, but I won't go there ... oops, just did). I can't take all the credit though ... thank Big Edie and her obsession with Little People, Big World.
