Potent Quotables: Castorini Family Edition

Ever since its debut twenty years ago, Moonstruck has been a consistent source for great movie quotes (no wonder screenwriter John Patrick Shanley won the Oscar). The most famous one ("Snap out of it!", followed by Cher's Loretta Castorini smacking Nicolas Cage's Ronny Cammareri upside the head) was named one of the top 100 movie quotes of all-time by the American Film Institute, but it doesn't end there:

• Rose Castorini (Olympia Dukakis): "Do you love him, Loretta?" Loretta: "No." "Good. When you love them, they drive you crazy, because they know they can."
• Cosmo Castorini (Vincent Gardenia): "I can't sleep any more. It's too much like death."
• Old Crone at the airport (Gina DeAngeles): "I put a curse on that plane!"
• Ronny: "A bride without a head!" Loretta: "A wolf without a foot!"
• Rose: "Old man, you give those dogs another piece of my food and I'm gonna kick you 'til you're dead."
• Old Man (Feodor Chaliapin Jr.): "La bella luna!"
• Rose: "I just want you to know no matter what you do, you're gonna die, just like everybody else."
• Rose: "You ... you got a love bite on your neck ... you're life's going down the toilet!"
• Loretta: "In time you'll drop dead and I'll come to your funeral in a red dress!"

As you can see, Dukakis' feisty Italian mother has some of the choicest lines (no wonder she won the Oscar). Dukakis will be on hand for the next "Monday Nights with Oscar" screening, where Moonstruck will shine again, on December 17 in in New York.
