31 Days of Oscar: Mrs. Miniver

Even though this inspirational wartime melodrama won six out of twelve Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director for William Wyler, what is mostly remembered -- or, more accurately, misremembered -- is Greer Garson's Best Actress win ... specifically, her acceptance speech.

Over the years, her supposedly long-winded speech has gained infamy for its excessive length, wildly reported as over an hour. However, such exaggeration is all Hollywood myth. In actuality, Garson only spoke for about five minutes, not uncommon during the days when the Oscars were non-televised, private events. Still, it is technically the longest acceptance speech ever.

Mrs. Miniver airs on Turner Classic Movies at 5:15 AM EST on Wednesday.
