The television adaptation of the Tony Award-winning revival of A Raisin in the Sun will air on ABC tomorrow night (click here for the trailer ... or just wait and see it ten times during the Oscars tonight). Produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, the dramatic special stars most of the cast from the 2004 Broadway production, including Phylicia Rashad and Audra McDonald, recreating their Tony winning roles.
Most people remember the play, written by Lorraine Hansberry, from the classic 1961 movie adaptation starring Sidney Poitier, so we all know that hip hopper-turned-actor Sean Combs has big shows to fill. On the other hand, it is doubtful the play would have been filmed again without his involvement.
And a little bit of trivia for you: the title A Raisin in the Sun comes from the poem "Harlem" by Langston Hughes.
UPDATE: A ratings winner, the new A Raisin in the Sun will make its DVD debut on May 6. Click here to pre-orderfrom Amzon.com.
