On the old ... excuse me, original ... Star Trek TV series, Captain Kirk and company were always going back in time for one reason or another (most likely because of the cheaper sets and costumes), but I don't recall them ever going forward in time. Well then, if that is the case, then this news really means the crew of the Enterprise is going "where no man has gone before", as in to May 8, 2009.
Yup, that's right, according to Variety, Paramount is postponing the next Trek film from December of this year until springtime of next. And although this puts it in direct competition with the new Wolverine movie and Tom Hanks' hair, the suits are saying, "the pic's gross potential is greater as a summer tentpole". That may be true (the last Trek movie, Nemesis, opened at Christmastime with nary a ripple at the box office), but methinks the bigger picture is that J.J. Abrams, now free to tinker with the script since that strike nastiness is all over with, is sharpening his pencils as we speak. Which means that we should get a better Trek in the end, even if we have to wait a few more months for it.
In more Trek news, Eric Bana has let it slip that his villainous character, reportedly a Romulan (yeah, I can see him as that), may not be as big a bad as we assumed.

If it's true that Abrams is taking the time to make the script even better, than I'm with you; I don't mind waiting.
In my world, the Trek is sacred. A movie with a lack of fug-ups would be most appreciated.
