Louis Malle's heartbreaking tale of a French boarding school hiding Jewish boys from the Nazis during World War II was Oscar nominated for both Best Foreign Language Film and Best Original Screenplay. Just try holding back the tears during the final scene.Thank goodness this one escaped the late 80's trend of remaking foreign films for American audiences ... can you imagine: "the feel-good movie of the summer -- Robin Williams in Goodbye, Kiddies".
