On Location: Griffith Park Observatory

When in Los Angeles, visit Griffith Park Observatory and you'll not only see all the stars in heaven (via their giant telescope), but you'll see a few of the earthbound type as well ... or at least, where they left their mark on cinematic history.

Many film and television shows have filmed at the historic location (with its signature view of the city below and the iconic Hollywood sign above), but none more famously then Nicholas Ray's Rebel Without a Cause, starring James Dean, Natalie Wood and Sal Mineo. Both the legendary knife fight and tragic climax were filmed right on the sight's grounds.

A bronze bust of Dean was placed outside the observatory's signature domed building in commemoration of the filming of the classic movie.
