Out in Film: Kimberly Peirce

Idol worship: Kimberly Peirce, director/writer/ producer.

- She made a splash with her directorial debut, the Academy Award-winning Boys Don't Cry, about the life and tragic death of Brandon Teena; the feature was based on her acclaimed short subject of the same title.

- Her second film, Stop-Loss, inspired in part by her own brother's tour of duty in Iraq, is currently in theaters.

- In between these two movies, several projects came and went, including biographies of murdered silent film director William Desmond Taylor and gangster John Dillinger and an adaptation of Dave Eggers' best-selling memoir, A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius.

- Meanwhile, she appeared in Kirby Dick's documentary This Film is Not Yet Rated and also directed an episode of The L Word.

- Currently, she is working on his next movie, titled Sex, Secrets and Taboo in Suburbia, described as a "romantic comedy with a gender twist".
