Best of the Fests: NewFest 2008

NewFest 2008: The 20th Anniversary NY LGBT Film Festival begins today and continues through June 15.

Two very different high school-set films bookend the fest, which opens with the New York premiere of Stewart Wade's coming of age dramedy Tru Loved (starring such gay faves as Alec Mapa, Bruce Vilanch, Nichelle Nichols, Jasmine Guy and Jane Lynch). The film is Wade's follow-up to his popular Coffee Date.

The festival will close with Tom Gustafson’s sexy musical ode to Shakespeare, Were the World Mine (based on his award-winning short Fairies), which is already being touted as the next Hedwig and the Angry Inch.
