Broadway legend George M. Cohan gets a new biographical musical in his honor with Yankee Doodle, opening tonight in St. Paul, Minnesota.Cohan has already been the subject of the Tony Award winning George M! and the Academy Award winning Yankee Doodle Dandy, but this production claims to "offer a grittier view of showbiz life than past tellings of the Cohan story". However, as you can see by the picture above, memories of James Cagney in his Oscar-winning performance as the inimitable showman will be hard to ignore.
