There were no real surprises today when the Directors Guild of America announced their nominees for their 61st Annual Awards, with the five most likely suspects getting recognized for "Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film for 2008". Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire), David Fincher (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), Ron Howard (Frost/Nixon), Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight) and Gus Van Sant (Milk) all made the cut, thereby making them the frontrunners for the Oscars. The DGA Awards will be handed out January 31.In other Awards Watch news, the Cinema Audio Society also nominated Dark Knight and Slumdog for their sound mixing award, along with Iron Man, Quantum of Solace and WALL-E. The winners will be announced February 14.
