No, you haven't gone back in time to 1982 (you know, when there was no internet ...). Ridley Scott's sci fi noir classic Blade Runner (starring Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer and Sean Young), is back in theaters (well, at least in New York and Los Angeles).
This 25th anniversary re-release is of the much talked about "Final Cut" that will land on DVDlater this year. And that's really the highlight of the week in theaters (well, at least in New York and Los Angeles). Call this the calm before the storm:
- The Heartbreak Kid: The Farrelly Brothers helm another pointless remake. Ben Stiller plays (well what do you know) a schmucky guy who finds the girl of his dreams (Michelle Monaghan) ... while on his honeymoon.
- The Good Night: If you ever wondered what a movie starring Gwyneth Paltrow, Simon Pegg and Danny DeVito would be like, here's your chance. Martin Freeman also finds the girl of his dreams (Penélope Cruz), albeit quite literally, in Jake Paltrow's directorial debut.
- The Seeker: The Dark is Rising: Unlike my lunch over that shameless Harry Potter-esque title. Young Alexander Ludwig discovers that he is the sole remaining member of a mystical warrior clan dedicated to battling the big bad. Ian McShane and Christopher Eccleston co-star.
- And finally: A trio of documentaries are opening in limited release, but unless you want to watch a movie about abortion or Kurt Cobain, then your best bet would be My Kid Could Paint That. The controversial doc looks at an unlikely art prodigy (a four-year-old girl whose paintings have sold for insane amounts of money) and dares to ask if she's the real deal.
