Something Wicked This Way Comes

I'm not sure of the reasoning behind holding a horror film festival a mere ten days after Halloween, but I will give the guys at After Dark Films props for an ambitious nationwide film festival.

From November 9 through 18, these eight modern scare flicks will haunt a theater near you showing this year's After Dark HorrorFest:

  • Borderland: Sean Astin and Rider Strong star in this based-on-fact fright flick about a human-sacrifice cult in a Mexican border town.
  • Mulberry Street: Where else but in New York can a deadly infection turn humans into rats?
  • Crazy Eights: A group of childhood friends reunite only to discover a grisly secret from their past. I hate it when that happens. Traci Lords (yes, that Traci Lords) stars.
  • The Deaths of Ian Stone: Mike Vogel is a young man who dies ... and dies ... and dies ... (you get the idea).
  • Tooth & Nail: Michael Madsen, Vinnie Jones and Rider Strong (again) are besieged by hungry cannibals in a post-apocalyptic world.
  • Lake Dead: A visit to grandpa's house ends in nastiness when a loony backwoods family is found there shackin' up.
  • Unearthed: An archeological dig unleashes a vicious creature that has lived below the surface of the Earth for 900 years. Now I really hate it when that happens.
  • And finally: A horned Nightmare Man stalks a slightly-off-her-rocker woman in what Variety calls the "boobs n' scares trash horror outing" of the fest.
