They Will Rock You

Tomorrow night on CBS, music in the movies will be celebrated in what is being billed as the "first annual" Movies Rock concert special.

Filmed at the Kodak Theater this past Sunday, the two-hour telecast is scheduled to include performances by Beyoncé ("Over the Rainbow"), Mary J. Blige and John Legend ("As Time Goes By"), Chris Brown ("Jailhouse Rock"), Fergie and Jennifer Hudson (James Bond themes), Elton John (songs from animated movies), Carrie Underwood ("The Sound of Music"), Usher ("Singin' in the Rain") and film composer John Williams (a bit out of place in this pop-heavy line-up, don't you think?) conducting a medley of his famous scores.

This has the potential to be a real cool salute to great movie music or, if they American Idol-ize the classics too much, disappointingly dreadful. We shall see.
