Forget
Field of Dreams, this is the real deal. An underrated "male weeper", Robert Redford's lyrical ode to brotherly love and fly-fishing stars
Brad Pitt (a suitable doppelganger for his director) and
Craig Sheffer (whatever happened to him?) as the wildly different sons of a preacher man (
Tom Skerritt) in rural Montana, circa the Prohibition to Depression eras.
Philippe Rousselot's cinematography, as stunningly beautiful as the title waterways depicted in the film, won the Academy Award. Screenplay and score nods were also received.
A River Runs Through It airs tomorrow at 8:00 PM EST on
Turner Classic Movies.
