And Dragon Makes Three

The Broadway musical version of Shrek is moving along, recently announcing a trio of stars, plus its eventual New York home: the Broadway Theatre, which currently houses The Color Purple, set to close later this month.

As rumored, Christopher Sieber (Tony nominated for Monty Python's Spamalot, wherein he is currently reprising his role as Sir Dennis) will play the villainous Lord Farquaad (I predict another Tony nomination). Tony Award winner Sutton Foster, now playing Inga in Young Frankenstein, will take on the fair Princess Fiona. Joining them as the dragon is Kecia Lewis-Evans, late of The Drowsy Chaperone (you think she'll get a big, belty song to sing?).

As for the other lead roles in the new tuner (Donkey and, you know, Shrek), they have yet to be cast. Directed by Avenue Q's Jason Moore, Shrek The Musical will have its world premiere in Seattle in August, followed by New York previews on November 8, with the official opening set for December 14.
