The New York Film Critics Circle has named Gus Van Sant's Milk the Best Picture of 2008 in their annual awards, announced today. In addition to their highest honor, the Big Apple group named Sean Penn (as gay icon Harvey Milk) and Josh Brolin (as his assassin Dan White) Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor, respectively.
Happy-Go-Lucky also faired well, with prizes for director Mike Leigh and another one for leading lady Sally Hawkins. Vicky Cristina Barcelona's Penélope Cruz continues her winning streak as well, with her third straight trophy, as does hot doc Man on Wire. The NYFCC Awards will be handed out January 5.
