Film Art: Vanity, Thy Name is Hitchcock

For their recent "Hollywood Issue", Vanity Fair enlisted 21 of today's hottest actors to recreate iconic images from 11 Alfred Hitchcock classics, and the results are stunning.

The classic "Hitchcock Blondes" are, of course, represented, from Jodie Foster as Tippi Hedren in The Birds to Charlize Theron as Grace Kelly in Dial "M" for Murder to an unrecognizable Renée Zellweger as Kim Novak in Vertigo, plus a black and white Marion Cotillard as Janet Leigh in the infamous Psycho shower scene. Emile Hirsch is positively dashing as Farley Granger in Strangers on a Train (he has got to do a period film) with James McAvoy. Other photos include Iron Man co-stars Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow in To Catch a Thief, Scarlett Johansson and Javier Bardem in Rear Window and Naomi Watts as Marnie.

Not all of the pictures work though. They oddly chose a color picture (featuring Keira Knightley and Jennifer Jason Leigh) for the black and white Rebecca, and as for the North by Northwest homage, well Seth Rogan is no Cary Grant ... or Hugh Jackman for that matter.

WOW. The pics are amazing. Makes me want to sit down for a weekend-long Hitchcock marathon.
